A day after his scathing attack on Deputy President William Ruto, Murathe, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, was scheduled to attend the meeting along with Kabando wa Kabando, a source said.

"Wednesday's meeting at Vihiga would have been followed by another closed door meeting at James Orengo's house on Thursday but Murathe did not come.

"I am told that he had to postpone the meeting when a close relative of Ayub Savula died. Ayub was also supposed to attend the strategic meeting which could yield another coalition."

Although Murathe did not turn up, Raila would join Orengo at the party but details of their meeting still remain scanty despite another source claiming that Orengo was tasked to craft the coalition with Murathe.

On his Twitter, Orengo, a close confidant of Mr Odinga, reported about Raila's courtesy call to his home although he also remained mum on the outcome of their meeting.

"Today I was joined by H. E. @RailaOdinga at my home in Ugenya where we upheld the spirit of Christmas season of peace, love and sharing. Through sharing we deepen friendships and create smiles in the faces of our neighbours and the less fortunate in society. Let's keep sharing."https://twitter.com/orengo_james/status/1078001218222473219?s=19

Mr Murathe is said to be working on behalf of top Mt Kenya politicians who are Keen to have a coalition with Raila Odinga and former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi.
