Nakuru Anglican Diocese Bishop Joseph Muchai has called on the two levels of government to scale down their recurrent budgets in a bid to address government spending.
Muchai wants the government to consider retaining a lean workforce as a way of cutting the high expenditure on salaries and allowances
Instead, the Bishop said, more money should be used for development.
Muchai was speaking at the Jehovah Shamah prayer center in Nakuru at the sidelines of the Fourth Edition of the Anglican Choirs Extravaganza that attracted the participation of 25 choirs in a peace music contest.
His sentiments came days after the controversial Finance Bill 2018 was passed by the National Assembly amid high acrimony.
Rev. Muchai said that in a country that is contending with grinding poverty in rural areas, a high wage bill negates economic growth which in turn spirals crime.
