Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago graced a youth conference on Friday held at the county assembly but one thing was conspicuously missing.
The governor did not carry with him his trademark 'rungu' not because he somehow forgot it but because county assembly rules could not allow him to carry such paraphernalia.
"First of all, all youths are welcome here. Secondly, on the issue of the 'rungu', according to the county assembly standing orders only official things are allowed inside.
"That is the reason why some youths have been sent away because of the way they are dressed up. I am respecting the law of the county assembly so I am asking the youths to also respect the law like the governor, " he said.
Governor Mandago loves to carry around his club which is festooned with colours of the Kenyan flag perhaps as a sign of authority.
Former President Daniel Arap Moi used to a similar club while the founding president loved to carry a fly whisk around.
The youth conference in Uasin Gishu was attended by young people from across the country.
It was aimed at sensitising the youths on the myriad opportunities that exist in their various counties.
