Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado is not yet off the hook after his attempt to convene a meeting in which he expected to marshal support to block his expected ouster from the ODM party failed.
Obado, according to a local daily on Tuesday convened a meeting of ODM delegates in Migori to discuss an alleged plan to expel him from ODM but the Raila Odinga-led party pushed for the cancellation of the conference describing it as illegal.
Obado is still battling a court case in which he is accused of playing a bigger role in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Ever since the murder charges were slapped on him, the governor has not been in good terms with the ODM party, a political formation he used for defending his seat during he August 2017 general election.
From the time his troubles began after Sharon's murder, the county chief has been seen in the company of Deputy President William Ruto the man expected to take on opposition leader Raila Odinga at the presidential level during the 2022 general polls. He was actually the only ODM leader who welcomed Ruto to Migori during the recent visit.
Obado, although without naming has been pointing an accusing finger at top ODM leaders of hatching a plan to oust him from the party. He has, however, promised to fight back and ensure he remains a member of the political outfit with the second largest representation both in the National Assembly and the Senate after the ruling Jubilee.
Some of his allies accuse opposition chief Raila Odinga of fueling his troubles. Raila is presently not in good association with Obado after the county chief refused to endorse Ochilo Ayacko for the recently concluded Migori Senatorial by-electon which Ayacko won. Raila supported Ayacko.
