Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Management Limited announced on Friday afternoon that Sony Sugar had been expelled from KPL.
The expulsion stemmed from accusations of Sony Sugar failing to appear for matches against AFC Leopards, Tusker and Zoo FC. The team had, therefore, violated the FKF rules and regulations.
Sony Sugar will, therefore , not participate in the rest of the league.
“Following the review of the referee and match Commissioner’s report of the KPL 2019/2020 match number 090 between Zoo Fc and Sony Sugar which was scheduled to be played on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, it was noted the away club, Sony Sugar, failed to honour the,” stated the management.
All the results that had been obtained by Sony Sugar were also nullified. The teams remaining league fixtures were also cancelled.
“Being the third time this season that Sony Sugar FC have failed to honour three matches, Sony Sugar FC have been expelled from the Kenya Premier League and all its results nullified. The remaining league fixtures involving the club have also been cancelled,” part of the statement read.
This season has not been easy for Sony Sugar due to financial constraints. Sony Sugar's main sponsor, Sony Sugar Factory, withdrew their sponsorship hence leaving the team in a tight financial state.
