There have been attempts to unite Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya chief Moses Wetangula, who are the leading figures in the region.

But the efforts seem to have been undone after both leaders presented candidates for the Kibra parliamentary race, which has raised concerns about the possibility of the push's realization.

Weighing in on the ongoing fight between the two leaders and their parties, the MP said that the push for unity is farfetched, terming it unrealizable and those pursuing it cowards.

He noted that it is the very same leaders pushing for unity who are growing discord within the community.

"Those pushing for the unity are ‘cowards’ and not ready to confront the reality because the Luhya nation is united by a strong bond,” he told the Standard over the phone, Friday.

He found it hypocritical for the people who were supposed to be uniting the community are fighting each other in Kibra, wondering why they both had to present a candidate.

“It is hypocritical for some leaders to pretend to be pushing for Luhya unity when they are the same people who sow discord that leave the community polarised and divided,” he added.

The region has on most occasions been divided during elections and has rarely been seen voting as a block as is the case with the neighbouring Luos or even the Kalenjins and Kikuyus.
