Members of the Cabinet on Tuesday cancelled regular meetings to oversee Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
Over 1 million candidates are sitting for the exams countrywide. They are all expected to complete their last paper on Thursday according to the timetable.
Transport CS James Macharia on Tuesday confirmed cancellation of cabinet meeting to allow ministers supervise the exam across the country.
"Today, being Tuesday, we had to cancel a cabinet meeting. All CSs are in the countryside. We cancelled the cabinet meeting to demonstrate the importance of this event," Macharia said.
He was addressing the media at Kigumo Deputy County Commissioner's ground in Kigumo, Murang' a county.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i was in Gilgil where he opened the container. He warned against examination irregularities.
"I have supervised the opening of an exam container at the Gilgil DCC's office. I thereafter Encouraged candidates at Gilgil DBE and Gilgil Garrison Primary Schools and wished them the best. Security for the exam and those engaged has been effectively deployed," he said.
Education minister Prof George Magoha was in Mombasa while Tourism CS Najib Balala manned Westlands within Nairobi County.
Boats and choppers were dispatched to flooded areas to supply examination materials. Among the areas affected include Tana River, Wajir, Garissa and Mandera.
Dr Matiang'i last week said police officers will not be allowed to take leave until exams are completed. He said security will be guaranteed throughout.
