Residents of Nyabisabo village in Kerera sub-location, Nyamagwa in Kisii County were left in a rude shock on Saturday following the mysterious death of a 60-year-old man.
The man died after a drinking spree on Friday night.
Confirming the death, area chief Calvin Keng'era said the deceased Chrisantus Okemwa Maranga was spotted in a local bar where he consumed beer with friends before he left to his home at 11 pm.
"Maranga's death has left villagers in a rude shock. His lifeless body was discovered by his grandson on Saturday morning. The grandson's attempts to wake up the deceased went in vain prompting him to raise alarm," said Keng'era.
The chief said members of the public thronged Maranga's homestead to witness the mysterious death.
He said the bar management where the deceased was before he met his death will be required to record a statement with police to help in investigations.
"The body of Maranga was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue as police launch probe to establish the cause of his death," said Keng'era.
He appealed to family members to be patient and allow police to complete probe into the incident.
