Attended by members of Central Management Committee, reports indicate, Raila is said to have angrily attacked MPs who defied his stand on controversial Finance Bill which he supported.

A source privy to Tuesday's meeting at Capitol Hill, says Raila defended his decision to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's memorandum that proposed 8% VAT on petroleum products since he 'consulted professionals and Uhuru'.

“The party leader told us that he has worked in government and understands that a budget must be balanced,” added the source.

On Thursday, ODM MPs opposed the bill with a team led by Ruaraka legislator T. J. Kwajwang openly claiming victory despite the contrary ruling by the speaker.

The committee comprises of party leader, his two deputies, chairman, Secretary General, National Assembly and Senate representatives, Women League leader and party political and election coordinators.

According to the source, those who attended resolved to whip members to toe to party stand.

"He was not impressed and wondered why MPs vowed to support the move only to defy him days later," he added.

Among the MPs who defied his stand include Kwajwang, Otiende Amollo, Mark Nyamita, Jared Okello and a host of others outside Nyanza region.

Those who backed him include John Mbadi, Junet Mohammed abf Gladys Wanga.

At Kisumu, residents chanted anti-Raila slogans over the VAT, a move that may have forced the veteran opposition leader to call for a meeting.
