This is after chiefs raided the mosque on Friday morning and found 8 children aged between 11 and 14 years.

The chiefs claim that the group might have been in the process of being radicalized.

The raid at the mosque located near Muslim Secondary School was conducted by Kisumu Central Chief Willis Onyoni and his Kaloleni deputy Willis Otieno.

The Chief said that they were acting after a tip-off from the public.

He wondered why the children were held up in the mosque instead of being at the school on a weekday.

'We went to the mosque after getting a tip. We can’t take any chances. We are not judging them but doing our investigations," Chief Onyoni told the Standard.

However, the mosque administration and madrassa teachers rubbished the claims maintaining that the group was having Islamic lessons as per the dictates of the religion.

''They are just being inducted into Islam ritual religiosity at their tender age. It has nothing to do with any extreme act or criminal behaviour," said Mohammed Ibrahim, a teacher.

The incident was confirmed by Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola.

Dola added that investigations into the same have been launched.

No arrest was made although the officials from the county education department would later visit the mosque and order that the group heads back to school by Monday.

This comes barely a week after Somali based terror group Al Shabaab staged a siege in Nairobi's DusitD2 Hotel on Tuesday.

The terror attack left 21 dead and scores injured.
