Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday admitted that the nation is a victim of poor leadership, hence it’s many shortcomings including the rising levels of graft.
He claimed that Kenya is suffering from visionless incompetent leaders.
"The biggest threat to Kenya is the visionless and incompetent leadership. We need the Jubilee vision to transform the nation," he said, a remark that should not be emanating from a leader of his caliber.
These remarks do not add up, especially coming from a man who is already at the heart of the ruling regime.
Ruto should not be lamenting of bad leadership, but instead, lead the nation in making the right decision, and at the same time prove his goodwill for the nation’s well-being by using his powers and influence to combat both the vice and its propagators.
Ruto and his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta are the most followed leaders in the nation after winning last year’s poll, raising suspicions on the ‘other’ leadership he was speaking about, yet they are the supreme leaders in the nation.
The remark came as a shock, as everyone would say that the two pledged to fight the menace in both of their bids (2013 and 2017) and Ruto was basically admitting that the job is too hard for them, while at the same time confirming that they are the problem.
If there indeed exists a problem, then it is upon Ruto and his side to solve them and not point fingers at other people who are out of the picture in an attempt to spare themselves of the blame resulting from their own failure.
Ruto’s statement came as a discouragement to millions of Kenyans who are now wondering if the corruption dragon will ever be slain, with the ones entrusted with the responsibility running away.
