Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence after the party was defeated in the Embakasi South and Ugenya by-elections on Friday last week.
Raila noted that elections are won or lost and that there is no big deal in ODM losing the two by-elections.
Speaking to journalists at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi on Monday when he met leaders drawn from the Rift Valley region, Raila said that ODM remains a very strong and united party.
The opposition leader laughed off claims that the Orange party is losing its popularity.
Raila also refuted claims that differences had arisen among ODM party leaders after the humiliating defeat.
“Elections are there to be won or lost and there is no big issue with us (ODM) losing,” the former prime minister said.
Raila said that Julius Mawathe of Wiper party was the incumbent MP in Embakasi South, adding that ODM has already congratulated him.
Raila’s party had been termed as a favourite in the Embakasi South and Ugenya by-elections.
However, the Orange party was floored as Mawathe garnered 21,628 votes to defeat Sumra who got 7,988 votes.
In Ugenya, David Ochieng garnered 18,730 votes to defeat Chris Karan of ODM who got 14,507 votes.
