Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has revealed that Rift Valley politicians are behind the slow progress in the construction of the Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.
Speaking on Tuesday, the MP revealed that area politicians have been inciting residents living on the land on which the projects are to be built to remain put and ignore vacation notices.
He admitted being part of the team, terming it a measure towards ensuring that landowners are compensated before vacating to avoid future wrangles with the government and contractors.
"We have told area residents not to vacate the land until they are compensated. We have seen more than once people suffering and not getting their compensation after moving to give room for such projects," he said.
He was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha Tuesday morning.
However, he rubbished claims that there is absolutely nothing going on on the ground with regards to the construction of the water resources.
The lawmaker noted that some work is ongoing despite the land tussles between residents and the contractor.
"It is not true that the project has stalled. The contractor is already on the ground and geological surveys are ongoing before the evacuation begins," he added.
The issue has been a hot one lately, with a section of area politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto poking holes into the ongoing probe into the matter.
