Deputy President William Ruto and his brigade are openly anticipating a President Uhuru Kenyatta backing in his (Ruto) 2022 presidential bid as Uhuru had initially promised.
However, in a race likely to pit Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga, it is rather hilarious for Ruto to expect the Presidents support and should begin looking elsewhere.
It is very likely that Uhuru will make a U-turn in the course of his second term and rally behind Raila, judging by the longtime political friendship between the Kenyatta and Oginga families.
Let it not be forgotten that Raila's father Jaramogi Oginga and founding father Jomo Kenyatta were close friends before their fallout in 1966.
Oginga even turned down a presidential offer opting to have Kenyatta lead Kenyans.
So it is very laughable for the DP to expect Uhuru to support him against a man whose father made his (Uhuru) father the first president of the nation.
This best explains the ongoing romance between Uhuru and Raila and their apparent united force in pushing for the looming referendum bid.
Uhuru seems to have decided to just help Raila climb to the top out of pity, considering that despite his four bids he is yet to make it to the presidency while also growing older by the day.
The same was the case for Jaramogi who died without becoming president and Uhuru will most likely try to hand over the seat to Luo Nyanza which has unsuccessfully pushed for long.
It should not be thought that their initial enmity was permanent as Uhuru was seeking his second term and naturally, one's interests always come before even that of one's parents.
However, this is politics and anything can happen, even on the last day.
