Kenyan sensational boxer and World Boxing Council (WBC) women super Bantamweight defending champion, Fatuma 'Iron fist' Zarika has retained the WBC title.
Zarika survived Zambia's Catherine Phiri's lethal punches to retain the WBC title with a unanimous 3 - 0 decision, during the Nairobi fight night 2, staged on Saturday night, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) ground.
It was no merry for the Bantamweight champion, as she came out scathed to overcome her challenger, who gave her a rough time with real iron fist exchanges that gave her early lead.
Phiri was out to avenge her 2017 defeat to Zarika with the same margin of 3 nil loss and after the 10th round, all the three judges; Michael Neequaye, Fillemon Mweya and Irene Semakula ruled in favour of Zarika, with a score of 98-92, 99-91 and 97-93 respectively.
The news of Zarika's win send the home crowd into wild jubilation including former boxing queen Conjestina 'hand of stones' Achieng and not to mention, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and Sportpesa Chief Executive Officer Ronald Karauri among other guests that had graced the fight.
The win means Zarika has prevailed in 32 bouts, succumbing to 12 defeats and has drawn twice in his boxing career.
