Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waitutu has been freed after paying the Sh15 million cash bail

Waititu had spent four nights in police custody after surrendering himself to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday. 

He was freed on Tuesday but failed to secure the cash bail. 

On Wednesday, his lawyer Tom Ojienda petitioned against what he termed as a harsh cash bail he had been given. 

According to Ojienda, the Sh15 million cash bail or Sh30 million bond was too high. 

Waititu's wife Susan Ndung’u who had been directed to pay a cash bail of Sh4 million or a bond of Sh10 million paid her bail on Wednesday and she was released. 

Even after being released, Waititu will not be allowed to step into his office in Kiambu town following a court ruling. His deputy governor James Nyoro took over hours after the governor was barred from his office. 

Waititu facing an Sh588 million irregular tender case. 

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
