To lower your risks of attracting this menace, practice the following;

1. Go for screening

According to doctors, one should consider going for regular colon cancer screening once they click 50 years of age. However, people with increased risks such as those with a family history of colon cancer should consider screening sooner and on a regular basis. 

Get close to your doctor and discuss the appropriate methods of screening. 

2. Maintain a healthy weight

At least 11 cancer types have been linked to weight gain and obesity. Colon cancer is one of the cancers that have been linked to being overweight. Therefore, if you have grown overweight and obese, you are advised that you reduce it to a healthy level and maintain it there. 

Maintaining a healthy weight will not only protect you against colorectal cancer but also against other dangerous diseases such as diabetes.

3. Eat lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains

What you eat really matters when it comes to health. Nutritionists and health personnel explain that diets that include lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains have been found to lower risks of colorectal cancer. 

Eat less red and processed meats because they have been linked to increased risks of this kind of cancer.
