The news of his death was confirmed by his attorney Joe Habachy in a statement to news outlets.

The statement fell short of confirming the cause of death but speculation is rife that Gordon may have succumbed to addiction to narcotics.

"My heart is heavy today after learning that my long time client Nick Gordon died ... while I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of his death, I can say that it's been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had immense potential," Habachy said in a statement as quoted by CNN.

Gordon's death comes five years after Bobby Christina, the daughter of Whitney, was found dead face down in a bathtub.

In spite of being found liable for the death, Gordon has long denied that he had anything to do with it.

The two got into a relationship shortly after the death of Whitney Houston in 2012, leading to the death of Bobby Brown who was Christina's father.
