Political analyst and governance expert David Osiany has predicted tough days ahead for embattled Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, only hours after his release from custody.
Osiany, also a politician, now says that Sonko's barrication from accessing his offices in City Hall will most likely be succeeded by impeachment by the County Assembly.
Speaking on Wednesday, he observed that the governor stands very slim chances of surviving and keeping his office, now that his reputation has been stained by his arraignment in court.
He commentated that the seat will be temporarily be held by County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi after the said impeachment before a by-election is held for the post.
"What will follow is an impeachment after which Elachi will take over before we go to a poll to pick another governor (Kitakachofuata ni impeachment Elachi achukue kisha tuende uchaguzi tupate gavana mpya)," he said.
Osiany spoke in an interview on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi on Wednesday night.
He stated that Nairobi residents should, therefore, prepare to head back to the poll, which, according to Osiany is inevitable.
"Nairobi should prepare for a new poll so that we can proceed and forget this issue. (Nairobi wajiandae uchaguzi mpya tusonge mbele tusahau haya mambo)," he added.
Sonko, who is facing corruption charges, appears to have complicated the situation by failing to pick a deputy, after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe last year.
