Calvince Odhiambo, 20, who repairs motorcycles at KCC in the outskirts of Kericho town claims that his 'Jeep' which uses a 150 cc Kingbird motorcycle engine is a four-wheeler.

Odhiambo says he embarked on inventing the vehicle by making a car skeleton using scrap metal when he could not own one, he uses it to commute in Kericho town.

"It all started as a joke. I collected scrap metal and started making the skeleton of the car. Some said my efforts would not amount to anything but here I am. It took me three months to complete it," he told the Nation on Friday.

Odhiambo, however, doesn't have any formal engineering training after failing to secure funds to go for the same due to abject poverty in his family. He only went to the garage to be taught practicals by experienced mechanics.

He said he had not been flagged down by police officers due to lack of legal documents for the vehicle.

Odhiambo said he discovered his talent while in primary school.

He claimed that the car can cover up to 140 kilometres per hour.

"I have driven it from town to Brooke and Kapsoit. I drive it home every day. No police officer has stopped me," Odhiambo said.

The mechanic has ruled out any possibilities of selling the 'Jeep' which can earn him an upward of Sh300,000.

He said his plan is to invent a better vehicle.
