Owino says that it is necessary for investigative agencies to launch investigations into the allegations.

According to the lawmaker, the claims are 'serious and could taint the House agenda moving forward'.

"The allegations are serious and relevant agencies should step in and unearth the truth," the first-time lawmaker said when he addressed Tassia II residents in Embakasi on Saturday.

Owino said that personally he has not witnessed his colleagues take bribes but added that it will be good if investigations are done to establish the truth.

"Reports of bribery must be probed because they are likely to impact negatively on the House Business agenda," he added.

The Embakasi East MP said that anyone found culpable of demanding and taking bribes should be dealt with ruthlessly.

There are reports that some MPs allegedly demand bribes when writing departmental reports.

On Thursday, some MPs were said to have taken bribes in order to shoot down a report on contraband sugar that was tabled in the National Assembly.

Kimilili MP Dedmus Barasa claims that some MPs were handed bribes to oppose the report.

He claimed that he was offered a Sh10,000 bribe but he rejected it.

The claims have been supported by Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati who alleges that bribery is rife in Parliament.

Two weeks ago, a local daily in its investigative report exposed bribery claims in the National Assembly.

The media report that several MPs have questioned claimed that the lawmakers demand as low as Sh10,000 when writing reports.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi says that investigation will be launched into the bribery allegations.
