In a Sunday tweet, Mr Ogolla expressed his deep pessimism and reservations about the efforts, saying that they were unlikely to yield any substantive results.

He argued that corruption is ingrained in the consciousness of Kenyans.

The only way to deal with the menace, he further argued, was for Kenyans to express their disgust at the ballot.

"CORRUPTION is steeped in our culture. It will thrive and reproduce, despite GoK's aggressive anti-graft posture. Posture does not alter culture. It never did; never will. Culture change demands moral conversations, expressed at the ballot. Corruption is best fought at the ballot," Mr Ogolla's tweet read.

Mr Ogolla's pessimistic tweet comes amid efforts by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to fight the scourge of graft that has seen the country lose billions of shillings.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been in and out of the offices of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over graft allegations levelled against him.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero also faces charges pressed by the EACC over the alleged embezzlement of county funds during his term.
