Three months after their supposed ceasefire, the leaders have retained their initial stalemate, which openly played out in the 2017 race for the county's top seat.

However, opposition leader Raila Odinga would later calm the situation by brokering peace between the two sides, culminating in a dramatic truce on June 10 in Migori.

In what now portrays the handshake as a scheme used by both sides to fool Kenyans for political purposes, they are yet to drop their enmity which was again fully witnessed in the concluded campaigns.

Obado openly opposed Ayacko's nomination by Raila's Orange party to represent it in the concluded senatorial by-election, terming the move 'dictatorial and undemocratic'.

Ayacko on the other hand presided over a name-calling and insult hurling campaign period that saw the embattled Governor who should now be his friend after the truce accused of all manner of things.

In his presence, and that of Raila too, a section of ODM leaders bashed the Governor for reportedly financing external forces to scuttle Ayacko's bid, but neither of them stood up to either refute the claims or defend the Governor.

It now seems that Ayacko only accepted to shake Obado's hand to penetrate into the hearts of his supporters, and therefore, realize his bid.

On the other hand, Obado played cool simply because of the presence of Raila, and also because he was cornered.

Speaking after his victory on Tuesday, Ayacko vowed to fully combat graft in the county, a declatarion that will undoubtedly again put them at loggersheads.
