Former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale has been subjected to sharp criticism, with a section of ODM leaders accusing him of insulting Raila Odinga to please Deputy President William Ruto.
In a post on Twitter, Khalwale posted a photoshopped picture of Raila, mocking him after ODM's loss in both the Ugenya and Embakasi South by-elections.
"Police in Ugunja are looking for an MP-elect for having caused actual bodily harm to a leader of a political party during a by-election," wrote Khalwale in reference to Raila.
Dr Khalwale has been leading an onslaught against Raila. The two differed immediately after Raila decided to reconcile with President Uhuru Kenyatta in March last year without the knowledge of NASA leaders.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale hit back at Khalwale, telling him to "go to Sugoi to pick his pay". DP Ruto comes from Sugoi in Turbo.
"Chief; your boss has seen this tweet. Now you can go for your pay at Sugoi," wrote Etale.
Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, who participated in the Ugenya campaigns said: "Must you sing loudly while washing utensils at Sugoi?
During Friday's by-elections, ODM's Chris Karan lost in Ugenya constituency to David Ochieng' of MDG party. The region has traditionally voted for the Orange party due to the influence of Raila.
In Embakasi South constituency, Irshad Sumra of ODM also lost to Julius Mawathe of Wiper party. Raila had personally pitched tent in the constituency during the campaign period.
ODM party Director of Elections Junet Mohammed on Saturday said the party will evaluate its performance and make necessary recommendations to avoid future humiliations.
