Ichung'wa wants investigative agencies to probe the claims, noting that the allegations are tarnishing the House's image.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Friday, Ichung'wa said that the reports of MPs receiving bribes are grave and must be taken seriously.

"Investigative agencies are free to conduct a probe and take action against MPs who are said to be demanding and taking bribes," he said.

Ichung'wa, however, said that he is not aware of such cases, adding that the reports of bribery are likely to impact negatively on the House business and stall the Jubilee government's development agenda.

The Kikuyu MP said that anyone found to be demanding and taking bribes must be dealt with accordingly.

"There should be no sacred cows and whoever is implicated in bribery claims should be dealt with according to the law," he said.

There are reports that some MPs allegedly demand bribes when doing their work in different departmental committees.

This comes after reports emerged on Thursday that a section  MPs had allegedly taken bribes in order to shoot down a report on contraband sugar that was tabled in the National Assembly.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa claimed that some MPs were handed bribes to oppose the report.

He claimed that he was offered a Sh10,000 bribe but he rejected it.

Two weeks ago, a local daily in its investigative report exposed bribery claims in the National Assembly.

The report indicated that some of the lawmakers demand as low as Sh10,000 bribes when writing reports.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said investigations will be launched into the bribery allegations.
