Friday was the day Kenyans set Twitter ablaze with #KobiKiharaChallenge. This was aimed at sarcastically attacking popular former TV host Kobi Kihara for “stealing”. Kobi had posted a photo of a mouthwatering salad on her social media page apparently to show her prowess in the kitchen industry, but her lie came to an end when hawk-eyed Kenyans noticed that the photo was fake, it had been obtained from Pinterest.

It is not Kobi Kihara alone who knows what she doesn’t, many of us are, I have been checking Instagram posts of the self-declared queens, in fact the title queen does not fit many of the Kenyan girls in their 20’s or early 30’s, it is simple, majority of these people have resorted to extortion, yes they extort from desperate and gullible men who are out to live a lie as well.

In the recent past, we have seen many students get the enviable A-grade in their final exams and the university scholars graduate with the very scarce First class honors, if we are a society that digs deep, you might notice that there is some card that some people play in order to be here, a lie as well.

I am even tempted to think that the spirited fight against corruption might just be a Public Relations affair in order to try and show that something is being done, Governor Mike Sonko leaked a conversation with a colleague in which he admits to bending the law to suit those in his inner circles.

Kenyans have decided to live in denial, like for instance many of us here in Nairobi brag about living in high-end places, partying like bosses and showing how much million deals we seal but in our backyard, our parents are languishing in poverty and some have been condemned with curable diseases, it is time we got back to the drawing board and accept that “I don’t know how to prepare that salad.”
