Molo MP Kuria Kimani has revived the debate on whether MPs took a bribe of Sh10 thousand to shoot down a report on sugar investigations.
The report was tabled into parliament by the Kanini Kega-led committee which had been tasked with investigating the safety of the sugar Kenyans are consuming after claims that it was laced with mercury among other harmful metals.
Speaking in Molo on Friday, Kuria dismissed the bribery claims.
"I want to say this without fear of contradiction, the reports in the Citizen Weekly was manufactured by sugar cartels to divert the discussion. Now Kenyans are talking about MPs being bribed and have forgotten the question on whether the sugar they are consuming is safe," Kuria said.
The legislator said the report fell short of answering the required questions and therefore MPs could not pass it.
"The question MP Naisula Lesuuda asked is whether the sugar Kenyans are consuming is safe. The report did not answer this question, and even if the report was to come back without answering that question I will shoot it down still," Kuria said.
