According to the flamboyant governor, the commissioner had encroached public land in South C by erecting property on it.

"When we come to a place Like South C, we have built a 3 km road but we cannot move around because a former commissioner of lands, who I don't want to name, says that that land belongs to him. We did an investigation and found that it is South C's playground yet he has encroached it and built on a road. The people of South C cannot get a road because a commissioner has stolen land and made it his and his wife's," Sonko said.

Governor Sonko said that the reclamation of riparian land would continue relentlessly.

He spoke over the week in Gigiri flanked by County officers who toured the area to reclaim public land.

The last few days have seen heavy machines and other earth movers mow down structures deemed to have been built on public land.
