Two siblings were hit by a motorist while crossing the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway near Kihoto Estate in Naivasha on Tuesday.
The driver of the vehicle is reported to have stopped and rushed the two, aged four and seven years, to Naivasha sub-county hospital.
However, they were confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital.
A witness of the accident, Geoffrey Kibe, said that the two were among a group which was about to cross the road but went first resulting in the tragic incidence.
“The accident occurred so fast and there was little that the driver could do. As a result, the two girls lost their lives,” said Kibe.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said that the driver of the vehicle fled the hospital moments later.
The police were informed of the incident and launched a manhunt on the suspect who left behind his car at the hospital.
The officers also towed the vehicle to Naivasha Police Station and are said to have launched investigations into the accident.
“We are detaining the car that was involved in the accident, where two girls lost their lives while crossing the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road,” said Waweru.
The accident comes a few days after a motorist ran over by a trailer on the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
