This follows the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) approval of the 1.2 million signatures presented by the Ekuru Aukot-led block.

Okang'o on Monday said the party is anticipating approval of the proposed bill in at least 24 counties, adding that they have reached out to assembly Majority Leaders.

"I am confident that the Punguza Mizigo bill will pass in at least 24 counties. We have deliberately reached out to Majority leaders in county assemblies," he said.

He made the remarks on Citizen TV's Day Break show on Monday morning.

Okang'o faulted those who have called for a halt of the bid to pave way for the rival Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, which is also expected to endorse a separate referendum.

He said Kenyans have demonstrated their support for the initiative and the BBI should not be allowed to interfere.

"Kenyans have spoken. I do not see why the Building Bridges initiative should stop the Punguza Mizigo process," he added.

The BBI task-force compiled by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga after their 2018 truce has been crisscrossing the nation in pursuit of answers to the nation's recurrent political problems.
