The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has called for the detention of private investigator Jane Mugo, in response to her claims that her life is in danger.
Mugo is locked in a tussle with the police and says that her life is under threat from some police officers, regarding a case where she is accused of threatening to kill two people.
She has told the court that she and her family have been living under fear since 2014, after receiving threats on their lives over her clashes with police detectives.
Through her lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, she has requested the court for protection, saying that her attempts to report the threats to the police have been futile.
"Our client’s life is in danger as she is afraid of the investigators in the case by the way they are treating her. We urge the court's protection as we intend to reveal the context of the threats," the lawyers told the court earlier.
But in response to her calls for protection, the DPP on Wednesday proposed that she be held at the Langata Women's Prison, arguing that there she will be safe.
The DPP said that with the spy behind bars, her safety will be guaranteed and she can proceed with her case without feeling threatened.
“The court can order that she be remanded at Lang’ata women’s prison where her security will be assured,” said the prosecution.
She has since denied charges of threatening to shoot Deepa Shah Desmond and Martin Mugusia when she was arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
Ms Mugo who has had her gun withdrawn and her fingerprints taken is out on a Sh300,000 cash bail or Sh500,000 bond.
The case will be mentioned on November 6.
