Maasai Mara University Vice Chancellor Prof Mary Walingo was on Wednesday sent home for a compulsory leave following Sh190 million scandal.

The university's council replaced Prof Walingo with Prof Godrick Mathews, who is also facing resistance from a section of students and workers.

It's believed that Prof Mathews is a close ally of Walingo and could aide in concealing of evidence against the scholar, who could be arraigned in court next week.

The exposé titled, The Mara Heist, implicated Prof Walingo, as the alleged mastermind of the massive scandal that led to the embezzlement of Sh 190 million from the institutions bank accounts.

Others implicated in the scandal is the universitys Finance Officer Anaclet Okumu and Prof Walingo’s driver Abdi Noor Hassan, who was adversely mentioned.

Two workers had been compiling evidence against the don, and they invited Citizen TV to investigate the claims. The two have reported threats.

Sleuths from DCI office descended in the institution when the report was aired, and interrogated a number of people who are linked to the scandal.

On her part, Prof Walingo admitted cases of financial mismanagement in the institution and invited the DCI team to do investigations and subsequent prosecutions.
