All indications point at an eroded friendship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, political analyst Dennis Anyonka has said.

The two initially very close leaders have been appearing distant lately, with their allies taking sides as well and firing shots at each other in the representation of their preceded leader.

Anyonka says that the love seems lost between them, observing that Uhuru has not been very kind to Ruto lately, which points at a widening rift between them.

"The president has not been kind to Ruto lately, we have even seen him calling him a roamer. It is clear they have taken different paths. (Rais hajakuwa kind na Ruto lately, hata tumewona akimwita Tangatanga. Its open wamechukua different paths)," he said on Monday on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha Show.

He observed that the rift might have something to do with the different missions they have, with Ruto appearing to be more interested in chasing after his 2022 presidential dream.

On the other hand, the analyst said that Uhuru is more interested in leaving a legacy, which Ruto is sabotaging by engaging in early politics and defying his (Uhuru) anti-campaign directive.

According to Anyonka, Ruto has found himself in a situation where he is forcing himself to appear close to the president, yet its clear Uhuru seems not interested in him.

He termed this the reason behind the DP's attempts to reassure Kenyans that things remain intact between them, yet Uhuru has been silent.

"Severally, Ruto has been trying to show that he is close to Uhuru but that shows that there is a problem. If you are together you don't need to say it. (Mara nyingi Ruto anajaribu kusema yuko karibu na Uhuru. Ukiona hivyo kuna shida maana mkiwa pamoja sio lazima useme)," he said.

Such came last week when while sending his birthday wishes to Uhuru, the DP reminded him of their retirement plans.
