Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Nelson Gaichuhie explained why President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Ukur Yattani as the Finance Cabinet Secretary in an acting capacity.
According to Gachuihie, the former Marsabit governor was appointed because he has a wealth of experience in finance and in diplomacy having served as an ambassador before.
"As a governor, he used to run a whole county... he has been an ambassador, he has a wealth of experience and you know treasury interacts with foreigners because of international debt and other issues, " the treasury CAS said.
Ukur Yattani stepped in for Henry Rotich who faces a raft of corruption charges in the Kerio Valley dams' scandal.
While appearing before the Milimani Law Courts, Rotich was ordered not to go back to work until the lawsuit filed against him is heard and a verdict reached as a condition of his release on bail.
President Uhuru moved Wednesday to reorganise government following the development in a bid to ensure that government continues to function smoothly.
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Hajji ordered the arrest of CS Rotich, accusing him of abuse of office and violation of procurement regulations among other charges.
