At least two of Deputy President William Ruto's communication team members could be arrested by DCI George Kinoti over the assassination plot letter.
Detectives from FBI have been investigating the assassination saga since last week when the letter which has since been dismissed as fake surfaced on social media.
While the names of those behind the letter have not been revealed, DCI sources claim that they work for DP Ruto at the communication department.
“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardise them,” Mr Kinoti told the Sunday Nation.
“Those who wrote the letter are now well-known. Whatever they had in mind has backfired,” said the official.
Investigative agencies have washed their hands off the matter by announcing they had invited the American Federal of Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in a well calculated move, leaving the ball in the Ruto camp to prove the assassination claims.
“We have been accused before of being biased in our work. We decided to bring an independent body to carry out investigations and identify the people who authored the suspicious letter and the origin of the allegations,” Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji told MPs on Thursday.
Among those who could be in the list is David Mugonyi, the man who has been running all communication of the DP from Harambee Annex.
Mr Emmanuel Talam, another outspoken communication member, could also be in the radar. He's a fierce defender of Dr Ruto on social media as well.
"By the way it is possible to stop William Ruto from becoming president without killing him @kipmurkomen @OleItumbi," he said in a tweet over the claims.
Dennis Itumbi, the Director of State House Digital Communication could also be among those being sought by DCI. Ever since falling out in favour with President Uhuru Kenyatta, he has shifted his attention to DP.
While he's not in the communication department, Farouk Kibet is one of Ruto's closest aide who runs the show at Harambee Annex.
DCI is however yet to reveal exact names of those who authored the letter which has caused confusions in government.
