In a post on Facebook Saturday, Itumbi said that the DP had reached out to the father of the boy to relay his condolences and pledge his support.

The accident occurred during the DP's visit in Busia where he launched irrigation projects.

Dennis Itumbi revealed that the deputy president had dispatched senior staff to the family as they come to terms with what has befallen their child.

"DP William Ruto has spoken to Mzee Mamba, the father of 7 year old Sydney who was knocked down by a car in his motorcade last evening. Sydney was admitted to hospital but unfortunately passed on. In the call, DP pledged to support the family and pray with them as they seek God's strength and comfort at this time.

"DP has also dispatched senior staff to the household to mourn with family. Very sad that we lost Sydney. Go well young boy. God stretch his hand of comfort over Mzee Mamba, his family and friends," Dennis Itumbi wrote.

DP Ruto relayed his condolences on his Twitter account as he confirmed that the boy had indeed been hit by a car in his convoy.
