Elders in Ikonge village, Nyamira County have condemned a woman for secretly burying her dead husband.
The elders led by Charles Obwangi accused the woman, Mary Moraa for failing to involve villagers in the burial of the late husband, Andrew Momanyi.
“Moraa should prepare to leave the village for disrespecting elders and villagers. She collected the body of Momanyi from Nyangena hospital mortuary in Kisii County on Saturday night and buried him secretly without involving even family members. We are not happy and she must leave the village,” said Obwangi.
Obwangi said the elders have teamed up and they will go to court to seek orders to exhume the body so that proper burial will be done for Momanyi.
"Momanyi was a respected elder in the village but, his wife Moraa wants to embezzle his property. We will move to court to seek orders for the body to be exhumed so that proper burial can be done. She is aware that we have resolved to kick her out from the village for good,” he noted.
Area chief, Daniel Onsase confirmed the incident and said the woman colluded with her parents and buried the husband secretly.
He said already he has summoned the woman to appear at his office today, Monday over the matter.
Onsase said he will not interfere with the elders’ decision to expel the woman from the village since she lacked respect by burying their fellow elder secretly.
