In the circulating photos, nominated MCA Abel Mose is seen leaning towards a white woman as he pauses for a photo with colleagues led by Mariko Mokaya (Gesima) and Charles Barongo (Bomwagamo).

On Facebook, locals accused the assembly of glorifying benchmarking tours without translating their experience on the ground back home.

"These people travelled to get Per Diems and to take photos. They don't have notebooks in the conference room and certainly, don't expect miracles," argued Samuel Aruasa.

Another user Duke Ombagi said: "This is a scam. They don't even look serious. They are just excited to take photos in a foreign land."

This is the second trip in less than a month with the last one coming in late September when eight MCAs travelled to Singapore for a women conference.

Sources within the assembly also intimate that next month, another bunch of MCAs will be traveling to the US for another benchmarking tour.

This comes amid tough austerity measures by the government to cut spending in county governments, a move that was met with protests from the lawmakers.

And in Nyamira, a section of professionals led by Kelvin Mwancha wants speaker Moffat Teya to regulate the travels.

"We want these people to oversight, legislate and represent people. What we are seeing is exact opposite," he said.
