Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has confirmed the confusion within the ruling Jubilee Party after his scathing attack on Aldai lawmaker Cornelius Serem.
The CS has bashed the Jubilee parliamentarian for his recent remarks linking President Uhuru Kenyatta's family to the sugar scandal, claiming that he is most likely working on orders.
Speaking during a joint parliamentary sitting probing the importation of the product claimed to contain harmful metals on Tuesday, Serem linked Uhuru's younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta to one of the firms that imported the product.
But addressing the press in Kilimo House on Wednesday, Kiunjuri rubbished the claims, terming them as baseless allegations aimed at making headlines and dragging the President's name into the mess.
"Every barking dog has an owner. It cannot be that if one needs to make headlines he must mention the name of the President and his family and make allegations against them," said Kiunjuri.
He maintained that the firm, Protech Investment Limited, never brought any sugar into the nation, vowing to remain unshaken by those making such claims which he said are malicious.
"Such claims cannot intimidate anybody," he added.
Serem was reacting to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi's failure to appear before the committee as was directed, claiming that he was scared after earlier declaring it unfit for use.
