Baby Ethan who lost his life at Shalom Hospital on Sunday after a deadly jab died from an overdose of morphine.
Prof Fredrick Were, a member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDU) told journalists that the baby was administered with 20ml of morphine contrary to the required 1ml.
Prof Were who is also a paediatrician said that the drug was heavy for the child thus causing the child to be weak and sleepy.
"The medication prescribed is called morphine one of the strongest drugs. The measure should have been 0.2 mls to be administered orally but the pharmacy didn't have the one to be given by mouth so an injection was prescribed," said Were.
"We find that the prescription of 20mls was administered by a health worker thus multiplying the prescription by 20 thus interfering with the breathing of the child and causing death," he added.
According to Were, morphine should have been the last resort and is only administered to people under severe pain.
Prof Were had accompanied Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, acting Health CEC Dr A CENT Kituku among other people where they held a meeting with hospital's administration.
Governor Mutua consoled with the family of seven-month-old baby Ethan where he pledged to ensure justice prevails.
