Kisumu County Governor Peter Anyang' Nyongo' on Friday held talks with opposition leader Raila Odinga and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa at Raila's Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi on Friday.
The county boss and the African Union Special Envoy for Infrastructural Development in the presence of the Devolution CS discussed the forthcoming Africities conference set for Kisumu in 2021.
Addressing the press after the meeting, the governor said that the county is ready for the major continental summit, adding that it will determine the future of the continent.
"The purpose of this conference is to discuss the future of the continent. We are looking at around 2050 when more than half of the African population will be living in cities," he said.
"We shall learn from each other on how we can raise resources to deal with the urban challenges," he added.
On his side, Raila hinted at the creation of a waterfront resembling the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa for more beauty which will, in turn, bring in more revenue.
"There are two issues to be discussed ahead of the conference; Kisumu winning the bid to host the conference and improvement of the lake to a waterfront," said Raila.
Representing the government, Wamalwa stressed on the need for the county to ensure that the city is clean and well groomed to attract the expected visitors.
