Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo is of the view that the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) in Somalia should be returned home.
The former outspoken lawmaker says Kenya in Somalia is funding an 'unnecessary' war and the military deployed there should be flown back to the country.
"We are financing a war which is not ours. Let us bring back our troops from Somalia," said the former lawmaker who is a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga during a live interview with NTV's AMLive.
Kenya first deployed the military in Somalia in October 2011 in an operation dubbed 'Linda Nchi' following constant threats from Somalia-based militant group Al Shabaab.
There have been numerous calls from across the political divide as well as ordinary Kenyans to the government that the army returns home because of constant attacks on the soldiers in the foreign country.
Al Shabaab has on numerous occasions claimed that its unending raids in Kenya are attributed to the KDF's presence in Somalia.
During the latest attack on Dusit Hotel in Nairobi's 14 Riverside Drive where 21 people were killed, the militant group with close ties with Middle East-based Al Qaeda claimed responsibility.
All the five raiders of the 14 Riverside Drive complex were killed.
