Acting Kisumu County Assembly Elisha Oraro has been endorsed as the best man for the seat in the elections set for later in the month.
The county assembly will be going back to the polls to replace ousted Speaker Onyango Oloo, who was impeached in September 2019, over allegations of bias and corruption.
Kondele Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Oketch says that he and his colleagues will rally behind Oraro, terming him the best suited for the slot.
“We will rally members to back the acting speaker because he is most suited for the position,” he said.
Oraro has been rallying the house behind him in a bid to have it confirm him the substantive Speaker, and in December last year met ODM leader Raila Odinga for his endorsement.
He will, however, have to deal with two High Court advocates; Kenneth Amondi and Geoffrey Yogo, who have also declared their interest in taking over the leadership of the house.
Yogo promised that his elevation to the position will mark the beginning of reforms in the house, vowing to among others, restore sanity in the assembly and generate necessary laws.
“I am best suited to take over the seat, I will restore unity at the County Assembly and use my vast experience in law to generate laws that can make the county prosper,” he said.
The entrance of Amondi in the race also poses a headache to ODM, considering that he has severally handled the party and county government legal affairs before.
