If you ask any ferry user at the Likoni Channel, starting from motorists to commuters, the vessel they would like to use, they will all settle on MV Jambo.
It is 84.60 m long and with a width of 69.60m. When fully occupied, it is able to accommodate 1500 passenger and 62 cars
MV Jambo is the recent and newest ferry at the Likoni Channel, and somehow the safest vessel, and for that reason, most ferry users prefer using it.
There are a number of reasons why users prefer this ferry to the rest, to a level that some users prefer to miss other ferries while waiting for MV Jambo.
Some reasons why MV Jambo is preferred most include:
1. It is faster than other vessels
MV Jambo being the newest at the channel, it is the fastest vessel, which can take less than seven minutes to cross the channel, in most cases, it takes about 5 minutes to dock.
2. It is the safest
It is the only ferry at the channel with doors or rather ramps that can fully close when the ferry is moving. That is, when its doors are fully closed, cases of car sliding and plunging into the ocean cannot happen.
Unlike other vessels like MV Harambee, where recently a car on board reversed from the vessel and sank, killing two people, mother and her daughter. It is also fully equipped with life jackets.
3. It is more comfortable
The vessel is equipped with at least 1500 chairs where commuters can sit and relax while crossing the channel. It also has a top roof that provide a shade for users. The case is different with old vessels where users are rained on, especially at this rainy season.
4. It is equipped with functional communication devices
This is essential for the crew as the captain is able to communicate to those on board in case of an emergency.
