National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will support and campaign for the party's presidential candidate in the 2022 general election.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV, Duale pointed out that the President had made it clear that when the time comes, he will back the candidate who will be nominated by the party.
"But when the time comes, and he has told us in private and in public, that come 2021 he will come and campaign for whoever Jubilee will produce as the presidential candidate. And he will wear the party uniform," Duale stated.
Duale's revelation comes at a time when President Kenyatta appears to be the link between all the major potential presidential candidates in the 2022 general elections.
The handshake deal between Opposition leader Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta united the two.
Deputy President William Ruto who has made his intentions to vie for the presidential seat clear, on the other hand, is still related to President Kenyatta by the virtue of working together and being under one party.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who has also declared his presidential bid recently revealed that he was working with President Kenyatta and will support him in the 2022 election.
Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, who has also announced that he will be on the presidential ballot, appears to be closing the gap between him and the president. Leaders from the Luhya community such as Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa have advised Mudavadi to seek the president's endorsement.
All these alliances with president Kenyatta have created fear that he may not support his deputy in 2022, but as the National Assembly Majority Leader confirmed, the president will support whichever candidate his party will nominate.
