A 13-year-old boy died on spot after a driver of a pick-up vehicle he was travelling in lost control, veered off the road and plunged into Eyaka River in Nyamira County.
Nyamira Traffic police commander Hassan Osman confirmed the accident.
"The deceased Isaac Mong'are was class 5 pupil at Bomondo primary school. He met his death when he boarded the pick-up which was going to pick nappier grass from a nearby farm," he told Egesa FM.
The commander said the driver and two other occupants escaped with minor injuries.
He noted that the driver of the pick-up was arrested and is currently being detained at Nyamira police station as investigations continue before being arraigned in court.
"The driver must explain how the deceased boarded the vehicle without his knowledge. The body of the deceased was moved from the scene and taken to Nyamira County Hospital morgue," he stated.
Osman warned motorists against over speeding saying unnecessary accidents will be avoided if they adhere to simple road rules.
