The recently concluded World Cup saw France clinch football's most coveted trophy. Apart from the on-field action, the tournament was underlined by the many players of different origins representing different countries.

France, the eventual winners, were the biggest beneficiaries, with 15 out of the 23 players participating at the event all from different countries of origin. 

There were other countries as well as Germany, Sweden, and Spain.

Kenya too has lost great talent, with many players opting to represent different countries and not Kenya, where they have an option to represent as well.

1. Divock Origi

Origi is the son of former Harambee Stars player Mike Okoth. He is born to a Belgium mother and opted to play for Belgium over Kenya, where he could represent as well. 

He regularly visits Kenya but opted to play for Belgium, where he represented the country from the junior levels. He, however, did not make it to Russia for the big event. 

2. Martin Olsson

Olsson is born to a Kenyan mother, who hails from Nanyuki, Laikipia County. He plays for Swansea city and his father is a Swede. He represented Sweden in the 2018 Russia World Cup, where he played a key role. 

He has a Kikuyu name - Waikwa

3. Marcus Olsson

Marcus is the twin brother to Martin and played in the English Premier League as well. He has represented Derby County in England.

His Kikuyu name is Munuhe.

4. Linton Maina

At just 19, Berlin-born Linton Maina has already upscaled his football from Germany's youth ranks to the Bundesliga. 

Maina is born to a Kenyan father and Germany mother, and his skills have seen him labeled one of the exciting teenagers in Germany.
