Over the years, women, including our mothers have actively engaged in chamas which have, in turn, empowered them in the financial and economic spheres.

The chamas that are often held on a rotation basis and Sundays or public holidays see women come together and save money for a worthy course.

However, in recent times, chamas have been interpreted wrongly with claims that they have become a haven where women exchange bad ideas and negative influence on family issues.

Today we will focus on five things women, especially from Machakos discuss in their chamas:

1. Contraceptives

It is the main topic that dominates women meetings and chamas. They discuss the best and worse contraceptive methods and advise each other on matters of family planning.

In many cases, women in these meetings raise concerns on how contraceptives have made them increase weight, lose appetite among other things.

2. ‘Toys’ pleasure

It is not a secret that some women use toys for sexual satisfaction. In their meetings, these women will deliberate on the best sex toys in the market and how to purchase them.

3. Husband dramas

After finishing discussion on financial issues, women in these chamas discuss on issues touching on their husbands.

They discuss the ram they encounter with their husbands.

4. Mpango Wa Kando’s

Women during their chamas will not shy away from discussing their ‘Mpanga wa Kandos’.

5. Estate gossips

After their financial discussions, these women will update each other on what is happening in their estates.

They talk of who has bought a new car or plot in the estate or who is going abroad.

6. How to lose weight

Women value their body shapes and will often discuss on the best ways of reducing  weight and keeping admirable body shapes or figures.
