The late Migori Senator Ben Oluoch Okello will be laid to rest on Monday at his home in Kanyimach village, Rongo Constituency, Migori County.
Okello was elected on August 8th last year to replace Wilfred Machage who served as the County’s first Senator.
Machage did not defend the Senate seat last year, but instead vied for the Kuria West Parliamentary seat and lost to the incumbent Jubilee’s Mathias Robi.
His body was flown to Migori County on Sunday morning and received by Governor Okoth Obado among other leaders at Lichota airstrip.
The former Radio Presenter died on June 19 while under-going treatment at the MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.
He become the first Senator to die in office after the 2017 general elections.
Residents of Migori County are expected to go back to the ballot to elect his successor.
Before joining politics, Okello was a morning show presenter at the Royal Media’s Ramogi FM.
The station which broadcasts in Dholuo language is very popular in Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya Counties.
He was popularly known as BOO (initials for Ben Oluoch Okello) by his radio fans.
He previously worked for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
