Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has intervened to help Pumwani Maternity Hospital even as the alleged shocking discovery of eleven dead infants at the facility continue to elicit reactions.
On Wednesday, Sonko announced that he has personally donated coolers to be installed in a temporary mortuary at the facility.
“As we plan for immediate improvement of maternal care at Pumwani Maternity Hospital, I have personally donated cooler boxes to be used as a temporary morgue,” Sonko said in a tweet.
On Monday, Sonko exposed the shocking news of eleven bodies of infants being stuffed into boxes and nylon paper bags.
Sonko who made an impromptu visit to the hospital claimed that he stumbled on some staff stuffing the bodies.
The shocking news has elicited reactions with leaders calling for proper investigation.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji on Tuesday ordered the police to probe the incident and forward a report to his office within seven days.
Governor Sonko has since suspended three top senior officials at the Pumwani hospital.
